Creative tourism is defined as a tourism which offers visitors the opportunity to develop their creative potential through active participation in courses and learning experiences, which are characteristic of the holiday destination where they are taken. It involves the tourists and local people in creating tourist products. What are the elements of this new kind of tourism? How does it operate? At Chulalongkorn University, a major and multi-disciplinary study has been launched to explore and propose ways and means for carrying out creative tourism in Thailand. The study picks up Nan province in the north of Thailand and Prachuab Khiri Khan and Ranong, two provinces in the south as study areas. Prof. Dr. Chantana Wungaeo, who heads this creative tourism study project, discusses what the study aims to achieve, whereas Vipavee Kittitien, chief executive of Mahachumchon Co., Ltd., shows how creative tourism has been applied in her tourism operation.
